In the wake of yet another attack on our Country, I choose to pray. Our words matter and praying is simply talking to God. We can tell God anything because we matter to him and he deeply cares for people. There is much confusion, accusation and speculation concerning the details that led up to the mass shooting in Orlando. My heart aches for the survivors and the family of the people who lost their lives this past weekend. All I know to do is what we are called to do, and in response, I choose to pray. I pray for a humbling of our nation. I pray for all to call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved! I pray that we the people would truly seek the heart of God and do what is right and good. I pray that as individuals, families, church groups and the body of Christ, that we would truly love people, give generously, forgive one another, and humbly put aside our own ambitions for the sake of others. I choose to pray and ask God to show up and divinely do what only He can do…. Change lives, forgive sins, heal hearts and restore relationships! I choose to pray! We have the ability to usher healing into our world with our bended knees and hearts in pursuit of the face of God. As we run after our maker, the direction will shift away from evil and pivot towards the one who loves beyond comprehension. 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 I choose to pray for healing in our land as we put away our differences and love one another. I humbly seek God and ask the comforter to come to the aid of those hurting. And as we consider our ways, I pray we recognize our need to turn and run the other way. Choose to pray and if you don’t know how, that’s okay; simply humble yourself, and speak to God in your own way and when you do, he will hear you. Accept the forgiveness he offers you, through his son Jesus and receive your healing. Won’t you join the movement and choose to humble yourself, seek God and pray? It’s your choice and no matter what you think or feel…. Your choices matter! And that brings up another thought….but I CHOOSE to save it for another post. What matters to you most? Do you share with others or keep it to yourself because you wonder what others will think? If you believe in what matters to you, you must share it! This Mother’s Day, I pay a special tribute to my mom, Barbara Faye (Pickering) Moyer. Those who have followed my journey know she resides in Heaven. I’ve included a picture here because I want you to see how beautiful she is (not was). She has had a huge influence on my life and she still matters to me. I look forward to being reunited with her one day and I am grateful I have the honor of being a mom as well. It matters to me that I share a few other things that matter to me as well.
Do you have a personal brand? You know, when people think of you, what comes to their mind? When you think of your own hero or someone who is important to you, in one sentence, what comes to your mind? In the simplest of terms, when you come to someone else’s mind, what will you be known for? You have the ability to help shape what people think of you and to make sure they do think of you by intentionally developing your personal brand. Here’s the deal, many think of a brand as a logo, but in reality, the logo represents the brand. It is the word picture or image that evokes feelings of the brand the logo represents. Your name, your face, your #hashtag and your mission statement is your logo that represents who you are. What feelings do you wish to evoke in the minds and hearts of the people in your circle or those who stumble upon your social sites? Who do you believe you are and what do you want others to know about who you are and what you stand for?
Did you know you have power in your voice? When you choose to speak and use your words, you bring life or death to your own destiny and to those around you. It’s True! The best way for me to explain this phenomenon to you is to tell you myself. I choose to speak so I invite you to listen and see if you don’t agree. Consider writing out your own daily affirmations like the ones I gave you in the video and remember this found in Proverbs 18:21, “Death and Life are in the Power of the Tongue.” Won’t you join the movement and choose to speak life and bring about positive changes to your future and your atmosphere? There are even books to help you learn to be a better communicator and learn to speak up. It’s your choice and no matter what you think or feel…. Your choices matter! And that brings up another thought….but I CHOOSE to save it for another post. Has someone ever told you of the influence you had on them that shaped decisions they made for their lives? This has happened to me before. I have been surprised because we don’t always realize people are even paying attention at all. Influence happens not just by chance but also by choice, and if I stay aware that my actions and words of encouragement have an impact on lives, it helps me to make better decisions for myself. That is what it means to influence by choice, or on purpose. My mom, Barbara, would have celebrated her 66th birthday this week, but she was 34 when she went to live with Jesus. The story was shared last fall in my post “Choose to Live” if you’d like to search and read it. Mom had great influence in the lives of her children. She taught us how to have fun, enjoy others, make the best of situations, forgive one another, do our part to help around the house, appreciate the little things, be resourceful, love God, learn new things, entertain and enjoy life! She was a great source of influence in my life. Mom also had much influence on my love for cooking and baking. My mom wanted peaches from a nearby orchard and she figured she would take orders to make a little money and get our peaches free!!! She was, as I am, a businesswoman, and she, like I, also learned a valuable lesson that goes with this story.
Choose to Love: “This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.” 1 John 3:11 February is the month we focus on love each year and this year has been no different in our home. My man planned a wonderful Valentine’s dinner in which he made reservations 3 weeks early, and I received a 2-dozen bouquet of roses, delivered to our home which was a surprise. Our daughters also received flowers delivered to their colleges sent by their daddy. Our son was given a monetary gift and I had special gifts for each member of the family. These were all beautiful TOKENS of our love for each other, but the tokens were not love in and of themselves. We thought to do these things because of tradition but we remembered because we love each other deeply and care about letting our loved ones know we love them and have thought of them. Love is the framework of our foundation and it is what we should do. We should love one another. It is the message we have heard from the beginning. We tell each other daily and when we leave each other’s presence or hang up the phone, “I love you” is the last thing we say and hear. God is love and love comes from God. Our home is built on that foundation and it is the reason we share a special bond with our family. Love is the trump card and it compels us to
My father-in-law, Joe Grimaud, has a personal quote he lives by and has passed down to the family throughout the years. It is something he wrote and coined “Joe’s Law of Certainty” based on his character, belief, work ethic, experience and convictions. The law goes like this, “Diligent effort, consistently applied in a specified direction over a long period of time will bring results certain.” This very important man in our life has certainly modeled his words and we are witness to the effects it has brought to not only his life but to the lives of many others. Joe chooses to produce! He has never been a complainer and he does not pass the buck or a great opportunity. The thing I have taken note of most is the fact he continues to do the same little things over and over again, and these are the things that have caused him to produce positive results in life over a period of time. I have seen this law played out in the businesses Joe owns, in relationships he fosters and in Joe’s commitment and walk with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. I’ve seen him get involved and take a stand for what he believes in and in so doing, inspires others to do the same. Papa Joe has taught his family, business partners and employees by his example. He is a man of integrity of which I am grateful. The result of applying this law to all areas of his life was to produce offspring that would carry on the legacy. My husband, our children and I have been inspired to follow his lead as we choose to set our eyes on the prize, trust God with the outcome, produce results and accomplish our goals. It is a choice we make! The 4th step in our series of reaching our goals is to choose to PRODUCE! Purpose Plan Prepare Produce – Otherwise known as to bring results! We first determine our purpose and why we wish to begin something or set a goal. We make our plans to carry out our purpose. We get prepared and put systems in place to accomplish our plans and then it’s time to take ACTION!!! It’s these action steps that we take that get the wheel rolling and begin to produce the results we were preparing for. To achieve GREATER RESULTS, I know I have to take massive action. In my professional networking career, this step is achieved best by using the power of duplication. We simply do simple steps consistently over and over. It is when we can find other people willing to do those same steps over and over, and they do the same, that we eventually have a large group duplicating the simple steps and we then produce massive results. To produce like this takes diligent, consistent effort and it takes time, but it will bring results certain. That is it! Persist I read in Romans 5:4, that “endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” When I researched the word endurance, I found it to mean patient. To do something over and over again over time, patience is required. As I see it, applying the law of certainty will produce character, which will produce hope and that is reason enough to me to do it, teach it, and teach others to duplicate. The legacy will continue and will produce massive results because a choice was made! Won’t you join the movement to realize results and choose to produce? It’s your choice and no matter what you think or feel…. Your choices matter! And that brings up another thought….but I CHOOSE to save it for another post. We are ONE WEEK away from the biggest gift-giving day of the year! Christmas Day is approaching and the gift wrapping has not started in our home yet. Much has been purchased but there is still much to do and gifts to buy. We are all given 365 days between Christmas days each year but somehow it all comes down to the last minute to get it all done! There was a day when my shopping was completed months ahead as I would not ask anyone what he or she wanted for Christmas because they “wanted” what I found 75% off after Christmas or throughout the year. It was a wonderful gift that was given because I could afford nicer gifts with the discount, but not necessarily the most thoughtful because
When you choose to give, you will be choosing to receive. However, be careful that you don’t choose to give so you will receive. That is a mouthful and sometimes a tricky thing to master, because we understand there is a natural spiritual law at work. I ended my last blog with this verse and this is where I will start. Read for yourself and see if you don’t agree that it can be tempting to misuse. “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Luke 6:38 If you think about it, it does sound like a great investment practice. It is not always money we receive back in full measure when we give, but nonetheless real treasure worth storing up. I recently joined a group of businessmen and women in Oklahoma City that goes by the name: Givers. I don’t make it every week but I go as often as I can. The concept of the group is to not focus on what you can get but what you can give to bring value to the people you meet and to the group as a whole. As a group, we also get involved in events that raise money to give to charitable organizations, because we are better together. I have really enjoyed getting to know some of the people I have met and I have made a couple of really great friends as well. When we get together with these new friends, we are encouraged not to get together with a mindset of selling each other or promoting our own businesses, but rather to find out about the other person and see what we can offer to help them meet their goals. We all want to think we naturally do this, but it really is something we have to focus on to avoid the norm of focusing on ourselves. Am I right? I admit it is HARD not to be thinking of a personal example or story I need to share to “support” what the other one is sharing. You know what I mean; you wait for the other one to take a pause so you can jump right in with what you’ve been preparing to say while they are talking. It is hard not to think that what I have to offer is the answer to their needs, though I do believe it really is. <wink> I also find it hard to just listen sometimes and not be the one sharing my great ideas, visions and solutions. Talk about personal growth! When you force yourself to focus on another and NOT on yourself, you LEARN and mature and you gain self-control and FRIENDS! When you give, you will receive and more and more will be poured into your lap! Sometimes, you do receive in material things and money. Let me tell you about my garage sale last week. It was not a big money making sale as I was focused more on cleaning out drawers and closets and getting rid of excess. I did not have furniture or big-ticket items but our neighborhood was having the annual sale and I was in need of a good cleaning out in our home. I am TRYING to think “simplify” though I am far from achieving that place in my life. Regardless, I am tired of storing up treasures in boxes, closets, drawers and shelves. If we are not using it, or have no plans to soon, it needs to go. Among the items that went into the garage without permission to re-enter the home, besides clothing was a closet full of homeschool curriculum and educational tools. It has been years since the material was needed and though some of it was used, much was brand new. I believed it was also desired by someone whom I was sure would be stopping by my sale in need of the very things I had stored for 5 years. Friday was a perfect day! We had a cold front come through and I was able to relax with my blanket and my dog. I had a great visit with strangers and neighbors who rummaged through my “treasures” though many did not snatch them up, much to my surprise. (kidding) A man named Jesse stopped by during the 30 minutes my husband was in the garage. I believe it was a divine appointment as it appears Greg may have a follow up one on one visit with a nice man on his journey for Truth, though he doesn’t seem to realize his need. Some friends I had not seen in awhile came by and I enjoyed reconnecting with them for a short time. My parents brought me lunch and sat in my garage with me telling stories and spending unrushed (though not uninterrupted) time with me. I enjoyed that so much as we all get busy and sometimes forget to just take a chill pill and sit and visit with those we love. I am so guilty of this! Most items went for $2 and a couple of things went for $10 but many were given away to the people who stopped by and I took pleasure in that. Then a sweet friend dropped by and bought a couple of items and then said, “I have some things in my car for YOU!” I had no idea what she had brought, but she went to her car and brought me back some gorgeous clothing pieces that had been well kept and were more valuable than any of the items I had moved to the garage. They were my size and my style and I so appreciated the gift. I thought about how when we give it will be given back to you and how there will be room made for more. I had cleaned out my closet of excess items that did not fit, were no longer my style and were taking up space. I had given many away to shoppers and then I was given back in full measure and the funny thing is some of it will go on my lap! Literally!!! I find that funny and amazingly wonderful at the same time. When the garage sale was over, many items were grouped together in containers and drug to the corner by the street. A sign on the curb read: “FREE! MUST TAKE THE WHOLE BOX!” (Like I could seriously make anyone take the whole box! Haha) Clothes were bagged up to donate to the ROC (Reaching Our City) resale shop, and other things were thrown directly in the garbage. Not all trash is someone’s treasure! The curriculum that had not sold was put together in a box with plans to donate it all to a homeschool co-op group. There was one math set that I had hoped to sell to someone who loved it and needed it and understood the value; however, it is not a program widely used. One of our neighbor children had been by earlier and recognized it to my surprise. She said she would let her mom know because she may be interested. Hours later when I had not heard from her, I thought she surely was not in need as it would cost much more to purchase new, though this set also had never been used. Plans were now in motion that I was done collecting money and all would be given away. Almost an hour after I had closed up shop and was relaxing inside, my doorbell rang and it was the mother of the sweet children who had stopped by. We visited and she was excited to leave with the math program along with many other items to teach her children with. She was in need of the very set I had stored for 5 years and she was thrilled. When I told her everything was free, she insisted on writing me a check for $50. That had been the cost of the books when I purchased them so long ago. Insistent on paying me, I gladly accepted and once again, my mind went to the truth that you cannot out give! The measure in which you give, you will receive. If you have a need, yet you fill a need, your needs will be met. We are called to give of ourselves to others and love in a way that the focus is not on ourselves for what we will get but rather what we can give. As we change our perspective and embrace this mindset, the spiritual law goes to work on our behalf and we get filled up with surprises of joy! Please share your stories of how this concept has been played out in your life. Comment below so we can all be encouraged and inspired. You see, even sharing of your heart and your life is a form of giving. You never know who needs to hear what you have to say and who needs to borrow some hope from your life. My joys from Friday were not huge lump sums of money or big gifts yet they were beautiful gifts of treasure. They are nuggets I’m storing up in Heaven! The gifts I received were relational and reminders that I have a God who is rich and he will meet all my needs! Philippians 4:19 tells me: “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. I think I am going to really enjoy this quest to live more simply and to give more time, money, resources and consideration to others. Don’t get me wrong. I am not there yet and I have a long way to go! Considering that I was able to catch up with friends, visit with parents, enjoy a free lunch, have gorgeous clothes delivered to my home and a check written for items I would have had to search a buyer for, all because I opened my garage and decided to simplify and give, I’m thinking this pattern of living beats the patterns of this world. How about you? Do you agree? Won’t you join the movement and choose to GIVE? It’s your choice and no matter what you think or feel…. Your choices matter! And that brings up another thought….but I CHOOSE to save it for another post.
